One of my goals for this year was to make sure I blog at least once a week. And for one second there I thought that I missed one! But I didn't.
So, I am reading Ivanhoe, another one of my goals for the year (read 5 classics this year). I really like it! It's in high style and sometimes it's a little difficult to follow all of the language, but it's based at the time of King Richard and this Ivanhoe guy is mixed in with Robin Hood and... Okay so it's a long story line, but I like it.
So far I have read The Princess of Mars, The Gods of Mars, Anna Karenina, and The Mysterious Affair at Styles. So Ivanhoe might be the last one... of course this depends on whether or not I count the two books by Edgar Rice Burroughs in a series. I still haven't decided if that counts or not, so we'll see how much time I have left at the end of the year to do another one.
I read Anna Karenina this year too. Did you like it? I really loved it - I was surprised by how much. I set a goal to read 6 classics this year. I'm not doing as well as you though. I've got 2.5 to go (the current one is killing me).

Which one are you trying right now? Actually, I had a hard time getting through Anna. It was pretty depressing at times. I can argue both sides of the fence on that story.
ReplyDeleteI am currently reading Dickens' Our Mutual Friend. It's rough. I keep thinking surely by page (insert number here currently it's 150) it will pick up and I won't feel so confused.
ReplyDeleteI've also read The Jungle Book and the Three Musketeers (which I loved as well). I would like to read The Woman in White and Arabian Nights before the end of the year. We'll see how it goes.
Anna was super depressing at times (and I hated all of the casual adultery). But, I loved the way the story flowed and worked. Even Anna's decent into madness was well done and seemed believable. I can see how some people would not like it though.
I think the adultery and co dependence are what got to me, but I have to agree that it was a well written book, and it was believable, not one of those stories where someone does something socially wrong and yet has very little consequences as a result. I like the list of books you have read, maybe I will try to get one of those in. I'm enjoying Ivanhoe, but because of the style it's written in I have to sit down and really read it, and that's hard to find time to do. I got some more read last night and I am just over halfway through, so hopefully I'll make it in the next week or so.
